Known as the building block for proteins, it plays a pivotal role in r
egenerating new healthy cells, especially during critical illness, trauma, intestinal disease, starvation, excessive loss of lean body mass, or extreme endurance exercise.
🌿 Cellular repair: Helps regenerate healthy cells for tissue repair and recovery.
🌿 Gut health: Fuels the gut wall’s cells to strengthen the intestinal lining and address leaky gut.
🌿 Muscle support: Preserves muscle mass and aids recovery during hard work or training.
🌿 Immune recharge: Contributes to a stronger immune system during stress or illness.
🌿 Synergistic Action: Works with NAC to promote glutathione, the body’s master antioxidant.
Why glutamine matters for equine health
Glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid and the most abundant one found in muscle tissue. Hard work and training can quickly deplete its levels, making it vital for supporting muscle recovery and protecting equine athletes during exercise. This same role has made glutamine a go-to supplement for human bodybuilders and weight trainers.
But glutamine isn’t just about muscles—it’s also essential for gut health. Low levels are closely linked to gut permeability and inflammation, which is why supplementation is a key part of addressing leaky gut. Glutamine is the preferred energy source for the cells lining the gut wall, helping to fuel their growth and repair. These new, healthy cells are crucial for restoring the intestinal wall and eliminating leaky gut. Plus, glutamine helps maintain the right pH balance, supporting a healthier digestive environment.
How quickly does glutamine work?
In human studies, glutamine supplementation often begins to show effects within 30 days, with significant gut lining repair occurring in about 12 weeks.
The perfect synergy: glutamine and NAC
Glutamine works hand-in-hand with N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) to encourage the production of glutathione, the body’s natural master antioxidant. Together, they provide powerful support for overall gut and cellular health.
We include our L-Glutamine as standard in our GutAminos
and JointReflexa
blends. See our Gut System

Composition:
100% pure L-Glutamine p
owder
- Organism used is Corynebacterium glutamicum
Feed: Interestingly, the equine RDA is a bit ambiguous. Google it and you'll see anything from 9g to 36g per day, or a rounded tablespoon/day. As an example, f rom a human perspective for leaky gut repair, a small dose won't cut it - it's usually 15/20/30-grams per day.
For horses, generally, as a maintenance dose, 4 g/100kg bodyweight is recommended, so 20g/day for a 500kg horse.
