Product Details

Jiaogulan, known as the 'Immortality Herb', has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries to promote vitality and wellbeing. Jiaogulan has unique properties that support blood vessel health, helping horses with circulatory issues related to laminitis, Cushings (PPID), and respiratory challenges.

This adaptogenic herb supports your horse's natural resilience to stress while encouraging healthy circulation, making it a valuable addition to any equine health routine.

Composition & Feed Guide

Contraindications

For more information, refer to Dr. Kellon’s book, Horse Journal: Guide to Equine Supplements and Nutraceuticals.

  • Jiaogulan will NOT prevent laminitis and will not help a horse with laminitis unless the underlying cause has been found and corrected and the feet are properly trimmed. However what jiaogulan does do is encourage good circulation through the feet by relaxing the blood vessels and encouraging regrowth of vessels in areas that have been damaged. It also has an anticlotting effect. Feet may grow at a more rapid rate. Horses harbouring collections of fluid/infection in the feet may become lamer within the first week or two of starting as these collections begin to mobilise. It is apparently very common for abscesses/collections to surface and drain in these first few weeks.
  • Do not feed if your horse has active inflammation, i.e. soft tissue injury.
  • If your horse requires emergency care and tranquilisation or surgery, inform the treating veterinarian that you are using an herb that is a peripheral vasodilator. Feed rate adjustments and careful monitoring may be needed when the last feed amount was administered within 8 to 12 hours of these drugs being required.
  • Discontinue aspirin or herbs with aspirin-like effects (e.g. White Willow, Meadowsweet) two weeks before starting Jiaogulan.
  • Do not administer to dehydrated horses or horses with a heart condition.
  • Do not feed alongside the following:
    - Ginsengs
    - Phenylbutazone
    - Banamine
    - Ketofen or human over the counter pain relievers
    - Nitroglycerin
    - Trental/pentoxyfylline
    - Ginkgo
    - Hawthorn berry
    - Plant derived antioxidant such as grapeseed extract, bioflavonoids, herbs with high saponin content
    - Turmeric
    - Curcumin
    - Vitamin C supplements
    - Heparin
    - Coumadin/Warfarin
    - Drugs which lower blood pressure, such as tranquilisers
