Product Details

L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body, a building block for proteins that preserves muscle mass in the body, maintaining cellular health and tissue repair, GI tract support and immune function, and stress reduction . It's particularly well noted for enhancing the intestine’s protective mucosal lining.

During critical illness, trauma, intestinal disease, starvation, excessive loss of lean body mass, or extreme endurance exercise, glutamine is shown to be beneficial thanks to it's key role in the process of regenerating new healthy cells.

Glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid, and being the most abundant amino acid found in muscle tissue, hard work/training can significantly deplete the body’s levels. It's key to supporting muscle recovery and protecting the equine athlete during exercise, hence why it's also such a popular supplement among bodybuilders and weight trainers.

L-Glutamine is also so important to gut health that low concentrations are linked to gut permeability and inflammation . This makes its supplementation an important part of resolving leaky gut because it’s the preferred food of the cells lining the gut wall to support their growth and repair. Itt's these new cells that are the key in repairing the intestinal wall and eliminating leaky gut. It also helps maintain the right pH balance.

In human health glutamine is reported to typically start to show effects within 30 days, with the gut lining repaired in around 12-weeks.

Glutamine also effectively works in synergy with NAC to help promote glutathione , the body's natural master antioxidant.

We include our L-Glutamine as standard in our GutAminos and JointReflexa blends. See our Gut System and Joints & Mobility pages for the latest research.

Feed Guide

Interestingly, the RDA for feeding to horses is a bit ambiguous. Google it and you'll see anything from 9g to 36g per day, or a rounded tablespoon/day.

Generally though, as a maintenance dose, 2g/100kg bodyweight is recommended, so 10g/day for the average 500kg horse.
